Taylor Van Doorne

Taylor Van Doorne is an architectural historian specializing in the history and theory of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century European architecture. Her research explores the intersection of ephemeral architecture, modern political time, and the emergence of historicist epistemology in post-revolutionary France. Her dissertation project examines how temporary festival architecture and urban ephemera in early nineteenth-century Paris contributed to contemporary architectural discourse, engendered urban planning projects, and facilitated a multilateral negotiation between the state, architects, and the public.

Her research has been supported by several grants including a Samuel H. Kress Foundation Institutional Fellowship at the Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art (2022-24), a Chateaubriand Fellowship (2021-22), and a Citation of Special Recognition for the Carter Manny Award (2022). Taylor is also the co-founder and co-managing editor of the digital journal react/review: a responsive journal for art & architectural history.
